Westia once flourished as the gateway to the Hahn Empire. This is precisely the reason for its favorable location, such as having a port facing towards IJssel Bay. According to historical records, Westia supplied plentiful seafood to the prospering Hahn capital city via waterway. The nearby flowing Anath River made things convenient since seafood could be quickly transported to the Capital while preserving its freshness. Once can easily see the importance of Westia.
Nowadays, this once vital city has fallen prey to rampaging monsters and bandits. The only traces of the Hahn Empire seem to be the remains of stone walls scattered about the town. Though located in Lordless Land, the region infamous for its lack of stability, Westia itself is relatively safe. This was a result of Diggers and Sentries using the city as a meeting spot and base camp for expeditions to the Ruins of Hahn (at more than a little inconvenience to the locals). The Tool shop and bar are always bustling with customers.
Hahn Nova is constructed nearby in the middle of the game, most likely because of its location close to the mouth of the Anath River and its ability to support a large population. Even Gustave XIII was aware of the fertile lands in the Anath River Basin.
Westia is located in an almost tropical climate, but lacks the humidity typical of such a region. The city is pleasant thanks to cool ocean breezes, though it often takes the brunt of many a tropical cyclone.
From Westia, the Ruins of Hahn are approximately 15 kilometers upstream along the Anath River in a mountainous area.
Upon entering the Ruins, most of the structures have already been lost to the years. However, the coliseum, temple, and building resembling a royal palace have remained intact, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in times passed.
The Ruins of Hahn continue underground into a vast city created through an astounding level of craftsmanship. Quells that were used back then still remain underground, which are sought after by Diggers investigating the Ruins. However, the entirety of the Ruins has become a den for monsters. Weaker monsters roam above ground while the ones below are even more vicious. Many a Digger and Sentry have lost their lives underground, their Anima feeding the monsters in a sort of cruel irony.
Aside from the stone walls, one other connection to the Hahn Empire remains: its cuisine. The food served in Westia in the days of the Empire is still alive and well today, fresh as its seafood. Take the fried fish set, for example. The owner of the bar claims that it was a dish loved by nobles of the Hahn Empire. These sets can only be ordered at lunch, but since they’re really popular, they sell out fast.
The fried fish set seems to be popular with Diggers and Spell Casters all around the world. Spell Caster Mr. N, who was there at the time, said, “Tch. I seriously doubt this is what the nobles ate, but it’s not bad.” Another Digger, Mr. T, said, “It’s tasty, but I think everything I eat is tasty.”
