The Northern Continent—a land avoided by people since ancient times.
The Continent appears a pretty rose with its temperate climate,
but the ferocious monsters living there are its thorns
which continue to deter humankind from approaching.
And yet, many people were drawn to this new frontier.
How did they cultivate the land?
Here we will observe the lives of the settlers.

The temperate climate makes the Northern Continent home to various species of flora and fauna. The people of the Southern Continent knew of its existence early on, though no one settled there because of the many monsters inhabiting the lands. The diary of an adventurer describes an encounter with a vicious monster larger than a sailing vessel.
Around the 1100’s, a trade route was established along the relatively safe eastern coast of the Northern Continent. Then many Diggers and Sentries arrived, clearing away monsters near the ports so they could be used as bases for their adventures. Word spread that the coastal areas were mostly safe and pioneers began to settle on the Northern Continent. Once more, the people living in constant danger banded together to clear a path across the land. Because of this, the villagers have cooperated to run their communities and continue to do so.

North Gate is one of the ports along the maritime trade route. It originally had warehouses to store and resupply ships and houses for the people managing them. Eventually, people began to visit on trade ships and settled, establishing the village for the sailors.
When Diggers and Sentries started visiting, North Gate expanded to serve as a base of operations for their adventures.
The village was managed by the port master working in conjunction with all the villagers. As representative, the port master mainly collected berthing fees from trade ships to fund the village’s self defense force.
As maritime trade flourished, nobles suddenly became interested in acquiring trading rights. The free-spirited merchants despised the intervention of these nobles and worked with the kings and leaders of each country to obtain the rights for free commercial ports.
The expansion of humankind never ceases. People travelled in search of new lands, pushing further into the continent. Tools in particular aided in reaching undeveloped lands. The Settlement is on the outskirts of newly reclaimed land.
A ruling class does not exist in the Settlement and instead the people who work the land live together as a collective. But as expansion continued, developed land paved the way to new systems. As a result, village operations and the lives of the people began to rely on currency. Despite being a collective, shopkeepers and the like who handled currency began to hold more influence, leading to the beginnings of a parliamentary system.
